Hey guys, it's Dan here. And today I want to talk to you and tell you a little story about myself. And a very important lesson I learned some time ago, and that I'm still very much learning and reminding myself of today. And I hope it will be of some use to you.
So I know many of you would probably consider yourself perfectionist in your particular area of expertise. And I definitely used to be the same. I used to be obsessed with being perfect to the extent that I wouldn't try and do something if I knew I couldn't do it perfectly.
But that, of course, I didn't know at the time, but that held me back in every area of my life, personally, professionally and yeah, it wasn't good. It took me a long time to realize that doing something is better than doing nothing because a lot of time trying to strive for perfect the first time meant I ended up not doing anything. So something is better than nothing and to try to do it perfect. Because you're rarely going to get perfect first time around. But that's fine and that is something I very much learned some time ago.
Yeah, a perfect example is this blog right here right now. The old me, would rewrite each sentence over and over, I would get so frustrated and annoyed that it wasn't perfect in my eyes, that I would never even edit and publish it and show it to a single person. Which then meant I never got as many blogs out there as I could have.
So after learning this, I've been able to finally start to get more and more content out there – videos, blogs, tips, quotes etc. I know they’re far from perfect, but there's no point trying to strive for perfect first time. But don't get me wrong, it is still important to strive high, and aim for high quality in every area of your life. But just don't expect perfect first time, that is very much my message for you today. Doing something is better than doing nothing. If nothing, if striving for perfect means you don't do anything.
And that absolutely applies for your marketing as well. Don't be scared of getting something wrong or making a mistake or looking a fool, like I have done for literally years of my life being scared of other things. Put 100% into something you're going to be doing for your business or your marketing or your relationship or anywhere with your life, but don't expect it to be perfect because it's rarely ever going to be perfect first time. And probably realistically never ever will be, never ever will be 100% perfect. But we keep getting better by trying but the only way to do that is to start today and do something. And so yeah, that's very much my message for you today.
So I hope that's been helpful for you and thanks for reading.
